Explore the Islay distilleries of Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Kilchoman, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain and the new Ardnahoe distillery.

Staying in exclusive accommodation, drinking high end, old and rare whisky, and being hosted by distillery managers…. you will have the whisky experience of a lifetime.

Proposal Itinerary for Spirit of Whisky Connoisseurs’ Experience

Day 1

Arriving at Islay Airport you are met by your local hosts and chauffeured to your luxury accommodation in a stunning part of the island.
Our first visit could be to Lagavulin Distillery, where you will meet Lagavulin Legend Iain MacArthur – who has been known to baptise people with whisky….. !
During the Lagavulin Distillery ‘Warehouse Demonstration’ you taste from a range of aged whisky in a variety of casks. Whisky is drawn out the cask right in front of you.
You also receive a complimentary Lagavulin glass to take home.
After this amazing experience we will arrange lunch for you at a recommended establishment.
In the afternoon we visit Ardbeg Distillery where you will undertake one of their more comprehensive Tour & Tasting options.
Comprising 2 Hours 30 Minutes, you won’t be disappointed with Ardbeg’s biggest tour on offer, finishing in their Warehouse 3 for a cask tasting with some unusual samples and old favourites.
We can then drive to the ancient carved stone High Cross at Kildalton for a bit of atmospheric history, or return to your accommodation, if you prefer some “rest & relaxation” before heading to Laphroaig Distillery for their very special “Behind Closed Doors” experience.
You visit Laphroaig ‘after hours’, where you will experience in depth tours and tastings with only yourself and the production workers in the building.
After this wonderful Laphroaig experience draws to an end we will collect you and you can either dine at your accommodation, or we will arrange for you to be chauffeured to enjoy some of the finest local produce Islay has to offer, including venison, scallops, oysters, local beef and lamb.

You are completely hosted and taken care of every step of the way. This is a bespoke, locally hosted experience.We want you to drink the best whisky, and have the best time.

Day 2

We will collect you from your accommodation after you have enjoyed a full Scottish breakfast – maybe even with a dram over your porridge!
We take you to Bowmore Distillery to participate in their in-depth, detailed, behind the scenes, ‘Vaults Secrets Tasting Tour’ which lasts around 3 Hours. You will venture into the ancient history of Bowmore Distillery, established 1779, and find that there is a story behind every corner.
In the legendary No.1 Vaults Warehouse (The oldest maturation warehouse in the world) you will enjoy a cask tasting from two selected casks. You take home a 100ml cask sample from the one you prefer, so you can reminisce over a special dram when you return home.
We will then drive you to a lovely restaurant where you will enjoy Cullen Skink – local fish & seafood soup/chowder, or anything you fancy from the delicious menus for lunch.
In the afternoon we will drive around the shores of Loch Indaal to Bruichladdich Distillery to participate in their ‘Warehouse Experience’ which last approximately 1 Hour.
You will Taste from different Bruichladdich expression casks including unpeated Bruichladdich, peated Port Charlotte and the heavily peated Octomore. Later you can spend time in the visitor centre learning from the staff about other whiskies on offer from Bruichladdich and sampling the Botanist Gin, if you wish.
We will then spend some time exploring the island. After stopping for a cup of coffee and some homemade cake at Ardnahoe Distillery cafe, and perhaps a tour around the new distillery, we take you to Bunnahabhain Distillery for the ‘Ultimate Bunnahabhain Experience’. Lasting 1 Hour 30 Minutes, you have a special tour of the distillery, then sit down for an exclusive whisky tasting of some of the oldest and best whisky Bunnahabhain has to offer. You will taste from a range of 18 year old, 25 year old, 40 year old, 45 year old and rare Feis Ile whiskies.
The distillery return you to your accommodation or place to dine.
We will make dinner arrangements for you earlier in the day.

Day 3

We collect you from your accommodation, with you will feeling refreshed after a wonderful nights sleep and a delicious Scottish breakfast. And all the clean, fresh, island air.
If you would like to go for a short, invigorating morning walk on beautiful Machir Beach, we will go there first, before taking the farm road to Kilchoman Distillery . Kilchoman is Islay’s family run farm Distillery on the Western side of the island.
Kilchoman are going from strength to strength, they have recently installed a new kiln and malting floor and over this coming winter they intend to implement 2 more copper pot stills. This is very exciting, as in future we will have access to more lovely Kilchoman whisky.
We will book you onto the Premium Tour at Kilchoman which is an in-depth Tour of the distillery hosted by one of their senior tour guides. You will visit all areas of the distillery, exploring the new malt floor, the still house and the new warehouse. This interesting in-depth tour concludes with a tutored tasting of some of Kilchoman’s finest drams.
After lunching in the Kilchoman Cafe we will take you to Islay House square to explore some of the interesting craft shops. We will call to visit Mr Gordon Covell at Islay Woollen Mill. Islay Woollen Mill is where the distinct tweeds come from for each of Islay’s distilleries.
In the afternoon we will visit Caol Ila Distillery where you will participate in their ‘Cask Strength Tour & Tasting’ . You will enjoy a tour of Caol Ila distillery, Islay’s largest, and arguably most industrially modern facility, followed by their Cask Strength Whisky Tasting, enjoying expressions straight from the cask.
Casks available at time of writing are 30 YO First fill sherry cask 56.5%, 22 YO First fill European Oak 55.4% and 12 YO First fill American Oak 61.9%, amongst others.
Then we will drive you back to Islay Airport where you can take your direct flight back to Glasgow.

Prices are £1700 upwards per person for a minimum of Two people sharing a SPIRIT OF WHISKY CONNOISSEURS’ PLATINUM EXPERIENCE. This is not your average whisky tour. This is a bespoke Islay Whisky Extravaganza.

We also offer a GOLD and SILVER VERSION of this tour – which are not so full on, either in cost or in so much happening in a day. Please contact me for details.
