Spirit of Adventure

2 Days & 1 Night. Get out onto the land of the distillery and walk to the water source.

Learn why there is no such thing as an “illicit still”. Explore the smugglers caves and secret places where people hid their small stills and homemade whisky in days gone by. Learn to cut, fit and stack Peat…..

Savour your favourite Islay Malt and watch the waves roll in from the west, while sitting around a smoky beach bonfire. Hear stories of peat cutting adventures back in the day. Learn what exactly IS peat, and how it flavours our famous Islay Malts.

Experience our islands from the sea; let us take you to the famous Coire Bhreacain Whirlpool at the North end of Jura. We will travel there by fast rib, and bringing a bottle or two of Ardbeg Corryvreckan, you can toast the sea and the successful completion of your adventures.

Proposal Itinerary: Spirit of Adventure

Day 1

We collect you from the airport or ferry port. You will go on a distillery tour or warehouse experience.
Then we go to your Peat Cutting workshop, which includes a picnic and a couple of drams, which you will enjoy after your work at the peats!
In the afternoon, weather permitting, we can take a sea journey to either the whirlpool, or around the coast to see caves where smugglers kept their wares.
Enjoy a beach bonfire and drams before we return you to your comfortable hotel or guesthouse in the village.

Day 2

In the morning we will go a walk to one of the caves where people made whisky. You will enjoy a dram or two while listening to stories of people’s adventures in the past as they out witted the dreaded excise men. Depending on the time of year we can also walk to a barley field where you can look at stalks, and heads of barley we use to make Islay whisky.
In the afternoon you will join one of the distillery parties as they head out to their water source, taking a picnic and drams for the time ahead.
At 17.00 we will return you to Islay airport for your flight to the mainland.
